The absence of toilet facilities poses a significant risk of animal and reptile conflicts to the villagers. This is particularly true during the elephant migratory season when herds move close to the hamlets. This gave us the learning that simple and low-cost community toilets can help reduce human-animal conflict, especially after sunset. In response to requests from the Village Forest Committee of Lokkere, we constructed two community toilets using the soak-pit method. We hope that this initiative, along with the other projects on eco-chulhas and environment education, can help reduce human-animal conflict and preserve migratory corridors.
